The Ed Greenwood Group

Four New Creative Coteries

Onder Radio | TEGG Artifacts | TEGG Costume & Livery | Quickblade Games

TORONTO—The Ed Greenwood Group (TEGG) is proud to announce another flurry of new creative coteries. With these new partnerships TEGG continues its expansion beyond novels into other creative forms. The Roundtable Podcast’s Dave Robison will initialize a TEGG podcast later this year as part of Onder Librum, the online portal to all things TEGG. Jeweller and artisan Kristie Courtnell, who creates under the name Lady Lilleigh, brings her years of experience and considerable talent to the TEGG Artifact division and is already working on a series of essence traps for the Hellmaw setting. For more than two decades Erminia Diamantopoulos has dressed actors for film, television and stage. She will now bring all that experience, and her special eye for what makes a garment worthy of remark, to each of the TEGG settings. Quickblade Games’ focus will be on role playing adventures and mini games. Editorial director Steven E. Schend’s decades of experience at companies such as TSR and Wizards of the Coast will be put to good use as he and his team riff adventures, monsters and more for RPG fans while also focusing on mini games; perfect for those gamers who don’t always have 4+ hours to set aside for gaming.

“It is both an honour and a joy to be working with my long-time friend on such an incredible project,” said Schend, “Ed’s vision for his Creatives is inspiring as is his dedication to the readers and gamers.” Courtnell looks forward, “The inclusion of artists and artisans as equal partners in this new project is fantastic and starting with over a dozen fully realized worlds for my team and I to play in is like letting kids loose in a candy store; so many exciting choices! Where do we start first?” Costume & Livery’s first project will be a trench coat from the Hellmaw setting. “I love working in film and television,” said Diamantopoulos, “But Greenwood’s vision for his new company is truly exhilarating…his commitment to each different creative process is stimulating and refreshing…I can’t wait to show the fans what we have been working on!” Starting as a singular podcast Dave Robison plans to offer TEGG fans a lot more, “Greenwood has brought together hundreds of authors, designers, artisans and other creatives covering dozens of art forms and is letting them loose to have as much fun as they can. His energy and enthusiasm for his creatives is heartening and enlivening…this is going to make great radio!”

These new partnerships give TEGG creative dimensions to explore unlike most other traditional publishing companies. “I am sincerely humbled by the outpouring of support for what I’m trying to accomplish,” Said Greenwood. “The talent, energy and inspired ideas that our new partners are bring to TEGG is exhilarating! Writing and creating has never been this much fun and I can’t wait to enjoy their creations myself. This is a brilliant group of very creative individuals and I’m proud to have them join our Sessorium.”

The Ed Greenwood Group, a new transmedia publishing company from the creator of the Forgotten Realms®, launches 31st October, 2015. The first novel, Your World Is Doomed! is a brand-new Ed Greenwood title and the first novel in a new urban fantasy setting called Hellmaw—6 story arcs, 85 novels, more than 150 short works plus games and Artifacts. Next year (2016) will see the launch of a more traditional sword-and-sorcery setting code-named Pony Island Adventures; novels based in the universe created for the board game Folklore: The Affliction and Quickblade Games—TEGG’s role playing and mini game division headed by the redoubtable Steven E. Schend. More settings in more genres will follow over the next ten years—For Wolf & Empire (steampunk), Lost Princesses of Mars (space opera), and In So Deep (sex fantasy), to name only a few.

“This agreement with ACD is great news for us,” said Ed Greenwood, president and publisher at The Ed Greenwood Group. “ACD ‘gets’ creative individuals like few other large companies do…and our partnership with them means we can follow both of our goals: to serve our Creatives, and to serve our readers, players, and fans!” The ACD traditional-format editions will all be available simultaneously with TEGG’s other formats and editions, allowing readers and players to choose whichever format suits them best without having to wait a year or more between formats.

Creative Coterie: TEGG and ChiZine Become Spellbound Bedfellows…

TORONTO—The Ed Greenwood Group (TEGG) and ChiZine Publications (CZP) today reached a creative coterie, a partnership that will see the CZP co-publishers, Sandra Kasturi and Brett Savory, join forces with The Archmage, Mr. Ed Greenwood, to help infuse an extra degree of idiosyncrasy into the new worlds and settings he’s created.

“Embrace the Odd” says the tagline on CZP’s website, and for almost 20 years ChiZine has lived up to its promise. CZP has long been known as the publisher of award-winning and mind-bending works that are often described as weird, subtle, disturbing, startling, and dark and are published in a myriad of literary styles and formats. “We look for the unusual, the interesting, the thought-provoking,” says Ms. Kasturi, co-owner and co-publisher at CZP. “We want to show readers something they haven’t seen before, to share the bliss of good writing with our readership,” says Mr. Savory, the other co-owner and co-publisher. “Creating and playing with Ed is going to be so much fun!” adds Ms. Kasturi.

The Ed Greenwood Group, a new transmedia publishing company from the creator of the Forgotten Realms®, launches this fall with its first novel, a brand-new Ed Greenwood title. Your World Is Doomed is the first novel in an urban fantasy setting called Hellmaw; 6 story arcs, 86 novels, 14 anthologies, 5 games, and 9 Artifacts are planned between Mr. Greenwood’s first novel and the end of the sixth story arc, projected for October 2022. Next year (2016) will see the launch of a more traditional sword-and-sorcery setting code-named Pony Island Adventures. CZP will participate in the Hellmaw setting along with four other Greenwood settings: For Wolf & Empire (steampunk), Lost Princesses of Mars (space opera), The Great Galactic Game (science fantasy), and Under Deadly Stars (science fiction).

“ChiZine’s reputation for being a publisher of great works of genre fiction is very well deserved,” says Mr. Greenwood, president and publisher of TEGG. “Sandra and Brett work hard, they have a strong respect and care for their authors and their works, and have earned respect in return. They believe in excellence, and both are quite heteroclitical in the most delightful of ways. How could anyone not want to work with them?”

Greenwood, Kasturi, and Savory will be co-creating ChiZine story arcs inside Greenwood’s new shared settings, and because it’s ChiZine, these story arcs will be travelling under, around, in between, and through the Greenwood storylines. Both Kasturi and Savory intend to write and play in these new spaces and places but will also be inviting their own group of dynamic and adventurous authors to participate in the ever-expanding creative space Greenwood is building.

TORONTO and DETROIT—The Ed Greenwood Group (TEGG) and Twin Fire Productions (TFP) today reached a creative coterie, a partnership, with The Archmage himself, Mr. Ed Greenwood.

In 2014, TFP unveiled an ingenious board game called Folklore: The Affliction, a release that was received with great critical acclaim as well as broad public support. Both aspects will use characters from the existing board game and also feature new characters in new adventures from the TEGG Sessorium of Creatives. Greenwood and Donovan will work together to guide the continuing folklore adventures in both the fiction and RPG lines.

“I grew up reading books and playing adventures written by Greenwood… That he loved what we created was awesome…that we now get to create together is incredible! The creative opportunity to extend our realm’s reach by adding novels and RPG adventures by working with Steven Schend and Ed Greenwood is fantastic,” said Will Donovan, creative director at TFP. “We’ve already got some great ideas flowing—the fans are going to be well pleased.”

TORONTO and MADISON, WI—The Ed Greenwood Group (TEGG) and Gamehole (GH) today reached a creative coterie, a partnership, that will see the GH convention director and publisher Alex Kammer and his team in creative collaboration with The Archmage, Mr. Ed Greenwood. Over 600 roleplaying and table-top games of every description are played at each year’s event. Tournaments, panels, talks, readings and other events support the gaming sessions and give the attending fans additional ways to indulge themselves. Now the convention is branching out in new and exciting ways. “This is a great start for our new series of adventures,” said Alex Kammer, “Being creative with the man who created The Forgotten Realms® is a thrill and a ton of fun!” Ed Greenwood, who attended his first Gamehole Con in 2014 said, “Alex and his team blew me away with their incredible efficiency and attention to the tiniest of details. Everything they do is geared towards letting fans enjoy themselves more fully. They bring that same care to the treatment of their special guests; it was an unmitigated joy to play with them for the weekend. Amazing Stories Magazine

Amazing’s readers get a sneak peek into The Archmage’s goings on…

TORONTO and HILLSBORO, NH—The Ed Greenwood Group (TEGG) and Amazing Stories magazine (ASM) today reached an agreement for ASM to publish TEGG material under a first-serialization-rights arrangement.

Amazing Stories was the world’s first science-fiction magazine. Established in 1926 by Hugo Gernsback (for whom the prestigious Hugo Awards are named), the magazine is noted for helping to start science-fiction fandom and for publishing the first stories by such legendary authors as Isaac Asimov, Jack Williamson, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Roger Zelazny. Amazing Stories is often cited by luminaries in the field as being the magazine that first sparked their sense of wonder!

More settings in more genres will follow—For Wolf & Empire (steampunk), Lost Princesses of Mars (space opera), and In So Deep (sex fantasy), to name only a few.

Amazing Stories magazine is—if you will forgive the tautology—frankly ‘amazing’,” said Ed Greenwood, president and publisher of TEGG. “My company, a transmedia concern, has found an excellent home for the first serialization of our novels at ASM. They have a wonderful 100-year history of publishing all sorts of genre fiction, and we are delighted to be a part of that tradition—giving readers of Amazing Stories a ‘sneak peak’ at our amazing stories!”

Steven Davidson, publisher of Amazing Stories magazine, looks forward to this new arrangement as well. “Ed Greenwood has spent decades writing novels, games, and creating whole worlds like the Forgotten Realms® for others to play in…an incredible accomplishment. I can’t wait to see the new worlds he’s been concocting in his writer’s laboratory. And with this arrangement of first serial rights, I and my readers will get a ‘first look’ at what Ed and his fellow writers are doing. Now that’s exciting!”

TEGG Reaches Agreement with Trapdoor Technologies, May 2015

May 5th 2015

For Immediate Release

Trapdoor Technologies

The Ed Greenwood Group

Deal Announcement

On March 9, 2015, Trapdoor Technologies and The Ed Greenwood Group announced they were in talks to develop, create, and promote new and exciting digital experiences for lovers of roleplaying games and the novels that come with them. Today we are pleased to announce those talks have led to a signed deal. “It’s amazing what The Ed Greenwood Group is doing,” says Chris Matney, Managing Director of Trapdoor Technologies. “Greenwood has assembled some of the best tabletop gaming designers and fantasy novelists around and paired them with a slew of artists and artisans. We are excited to be able to introduce these new worlds and creations to fans and give them a whole new level of interactive digital experience.”

Trapdoor Technologies is a Colorado-based software company specializing in enhanced digital publishing. Proprietary software allows its teams to create immersive experiences for both traditional and nontraditional content. Trapdoor has developed the Playbook application—tablet-based software designed to enhance the experience of roleplaying and other tabletop games. Player tools for creating and managing characters and gamemaster tools for adventures, settings, maps, monsters, adventures, sounds, and more are to be seamlessly integrated in a real-time playing experience.

During the development of Playbook, Trapdoor Technologies began parallel creation of Storybook, an enhanced software platform for e books, which provides supportive technology for the reading experience such as sound effects, additional notes from the author, and seamless footnotes as well as additive and adaptive software that allows the reader to link information from an e-book and save it for later use in a roleplaying game.

Together both Playbook and Storybook are more than just simple templates for games and literature—they are platforms to provide additional creativity for authors and game designers and will easily incorporate enhanced content, including audio; visual (photographic and infographic); interactive puzzles and minigames; full-length roleplaying games; dice rollers; and character generators. “With our Playbook and Storybook tablet applications, Trapdoor has created a new delivery system,” says Matney. “While we are in the process of building products for other industries, it’s tabletop gaming that is in our blood.”

In March, Ed Greenwood officially announced the formation of The Ed Greenwood Group—an author- and artist-centric content creation sessorium spearheaded by The Archmage himself. The Ed Greenwood Group already hosts dozens of award-winning authors and content creators and is expected to grow throughout 2015 and beyond.

The Ed Greenwood Group’s publication schedule begins later this year in October 2015 with the launch of Hellmaw, a new urban-fantasy setting for novels, RPG (roleplaying games), traditional board games, and card games. Its launch will include a new novel by Ed Greenwood entitled Hellmaw: Your World is Doomed. The year 2016 will see the unveiling of a new endeavour using a more traditional sword-and-sorcery setting code-named Pony Island Adventures. “Trapdoor’s Storybook and Playbook software will make a perfect place for us to ‘set up shop’ to reach readers and gamers in new ways… it’s a great way to engage people in the adventures, novels, and settings,” says Greenwood.

Trajectory, Inc.

The Ed Greenwood Group

Agreement Reached for Global eBook Distribution

BOSTON and TORONTO—Trajectory, Inc. and The Ed Greenwood Group today reached an agreement for the global distribution of eBooks produced by The Ed Greenwood Group. The Ed Greenwood Group is a new transmedia publishing concern whose production schedule will include novels, anthologies, RPGs (roleplaying games), card and board games, mobile applications, jewelry, clothing, specialty food items, and much more.

The Ed Greenwood Group launches this October (2015) with its first novel, Your World is Doomed by Ed Greenwood, set in a new urban fantasy setting called Hellmaw. Twenty-four novels will follow, one a month, as Mr. Greenwood and his colleagues initialize the first of six Hellmaw story arcs. The year 2016 will see the launch of a more traditional sword-and-sorcery setting code-named Pony Island Adventures. More settings in more genres will follow—For Wolf & Empire (steampunk), The Lost Princesses of Mars (space opera), and A Handful of Bleeding Stars (science fiction), to name a few.

Trajectory is a Boston-based intelligent network that connects publishers with its global digital distribution network of ebook retailers, libraries, schools, and app distributors. The Trajectory network delivers 300+ international points of distribution representing over 230,000 digital endpoints, including every relevant ebook retailer, library distributor, school distributor, and alternative digital sales channel, to reach a potential English-reading international audience of 850 million people all from a single onboarding point. Trajectory recently introduced a series of algorithms that are being used to address the “book discoverability” issue facing the publishing world. Trajectory’s Natural Language Processing Engine (NLPE) is a vibrant new system for enhanced ebook discoverability and reader engagement.

“Trajectory’s distribution systems for ebooks are nothing short of astonishing,” said Ed Greenwood, TEGG’s president and publisher. “Nobody is better at understanding and adapting to the ever-changing ePublishing environment than Trajectory. We are very excited to be partnering with Trajectory to expand the distribution of our books digitally around the globe. Trajectory’s broad reach uniquely positions us to meet demand for The Ed Greenwood Group products in new markets—especially through eRetail libraries—and internationally.”

“The Ed Greenwood Group’s impressive catalogue will appeal to fantasy and genre readers the world over,” said Scott Beatty, Chief Content Officer of Trajectory, Inc. “It’s an honor to work with such a distinguished author and worldbuilder and the incredible lineup of authors and artists he has collected together. Greenwood’s creation, Forgotten Realms®, will turn 50 this year. It’s been a published setting for almost 30 years and has spawned the creation of thousands of books, comic books, and games by hundreds of writers. We are sure The Ed Greenwood Group’s lineup will enjoy the same success.”

The Ed Greenwood Group will be utilizing Trajectory’s Natural Language Processing technology to derive new data analytics from each title. This new dataset compounds global sales and book discovery by enriching title metadata with keywords, people, and places data for superior audience development and channel discovery. Books within the Trajectory system are compared to each other to generate highly accurate recommendations. The goal is a commercially viable option to sales algorithms, using such factors as keywords, complexity, reading level, and the unique use of language to offer readers an alternative form of guidance.
